NEWS: Changes to how water and sewerage concessions are paid to members in body corporate and retirement villages.

The NT Concession Scheme is improving access to concessions for members living in body corporate and retirement villages.

From January 2020, concessions on water and sewerage for members living in body corporate arrangements and retirement villages will be paid directly into member’s bank accounts twice a year removing the need for members to complete a manual reimbursement.

The first automatic payment is currently being processed and eligible members can expect to see the payment in their nominated bank account by the end of January 2020.

Prior to paying water and sewerage concessions to the member’s bank account, an automated property ownership check will be conducted against records held by Integrated Land Information System (ILIS).  Members should make sure their banking details recorded with the Scheme are up to date and advise of any changes that may impact their eligibility to receive concessions.

Jacana Energy and Power and Water Corporation will be listed to accept prepaid card allowing members to make payments with the prepaid card on their electricity and water accounts.

NEWS: New Debit Cards for the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme

Territorians on the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme will now have more flexibility and choice with the introduction of a new debit card that will replace the existing paper travel vouchers.

The card will make it easier for seniors to access their $500 payment which can be used towards travel (including online travel bookings), electricity, and water. The card will reduce the burden for seniors and allows immediate access to the payment and removes the need for reimbursement.

For the very first time, the payment can now also be used towards the cost of fuel.

The debit card will be provided to all NT Seniors Recognition Scheme members from July 2020, but members with a valid and unused travel voucher can apply later this year to change their voucher to a card.

The debit card will look and operate like a regular card and it will be PIN protected. Members cannot withdraw cash.

The new debit card will be easier to manage administratively and it will deliver greater efficiencies for members, vendors and Government, as well as help prevent fraud and rorting of the scheme.

Further information

As the debit card is implemented, information about how members will receive their card and how it will work will be provided.  Information will be provided in newsletters, community information sessions and direct advice to members through letter or email.

In the meantime, we have produced a Factsheet and Questions and Answers document to provide as much information as possible at this time.
