Two new schemes for Northern Territory residents that support eligible pensioners, including aged pension recipients, with the cost of living and recognise the valuable contribution seniors continue to make to the Northern Territory.

 

NT CONCESSION SCHEME

A means-tested scheme supporting eligible Territorians with the cost of living.

NT SENIORS RECOGNITION SCHEME

Recognising the valuable contribution senior Territorians make to the Northern Territory. All senior Territorians 65 years or older, are eligible for this scheme

Prepaid Card information for members

In December a Prepaid Card will be introduced to members of the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme.

Members with unused travel voucher/s  (issued in 2019 and valid to 30 June 2020) will be sent a letter and will have the option to change their unused travel voucher/s to a Prepaid Card.  Information will be provided to the member on what they need to do to change to the Prepaid Card.  Members do not have to swap their Prepaid Card and can choose to continue to use their 2019 Travel Vouchers under the existing terms and conditions. 

Members who have had their NT Seniors Recognition payment for 2019 applied to their water or electricity account will not be able to change to a Prepaid Card as the payment has been applied to the member's account.

The Prepaid Card will be provided to all members of the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme who have confirmed their details from 1 July 2020.   No further travel vouchers will be issued and members who wish to use their Prepaid Card to make payments on their electricity and/or water accounts will be required to make these payments themselves using the online payment option offered by Jacana Energy and Power and Water Corporation.

Members who choose to swap to a Prepaid Card will be able to use the Card at:

  • Travel Service Providers (including online)
  • Accommodation
  • Fuel Distributors
  • Business listed in the approved merchant categories

Members should always check with the business and make sure they are able to access the Prepaid Card.

Members who change to a Prepaid Card

Members who change their unused travel vouchers to a Prepaid Card will receive their Prepaid Card via Australia Post within 20 business days.

The Prepaid Cards are single load cards and will be deactivated when the funds are expended.  The Prepaid Cards are only valid for the financial year that they are issued, the expiry date is printed on the front of the card.  Any remaining funds will be cleared at the end of the financial year.  Members are encouraged to dispose of their Prepaid Cards when the funds are spent.

When the Prepaid Card is received it will be deactivated and members will need to activate their card before the funds will be available for use. The cards will incorporate a PIN (personal identification number).

Members can activate their account by:

  • The NT Concession and Recognition Website
  • Contacting 1800 777 704 and selecting the Prepaid Card activation Option
  • Visiting a Territory Families shopfront

When activating a card, members will be required to confirm their identify. Once confirmed a special verification code will be sent to the member using the preferred contact e.g. SMS, email or generated telephone call.

Once the verification code is successfully entered the funds will available.

Members should always check with the business that they accept the Prepaid Card before transacting.

Checking Prepaid Card Balances and Transaction History

Members can check their Prepaid Card by visiting the NT Concession and Recognition Scheme website.  Prepaid Card balances can be checked by calling 1800 777 704 and selecting Prepaid Card Balance Enquiry option.

Lost Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Members cannot receive a new PIN as the Prepaid Card is a single load card.

Members can request to have their PIN revealed online by visiting the NT Concession and Recognition Website.  Members must have an email account to submit a PIN reveal.

Members who do not have an email address can contact a Shopfront to have a new Prepaid Card issued.

Reporting Lost/Stolen Prepaid Cards

Members can report lost or stolen cards by visiting a Shop front or calling 1800 777 704 and selecting the Lost or Stolen Card option.

Booking Travel online – Multiple Payments

Members should check before making purchases online at Approved Travel Merchants as some businesses do not offer multiple payment options.  For example:  If a member is booking travel online to the value of $1100 and the business does not allow multiple payment options the member will not be able to use their Prepaid Card to make the payment, as the value on the prepaid card is less than the total value.
