A means-tested scheme supporting eligible Territorians with the cost of living.

Recognising the valuable contribution senior Territorians make to the Northern Territory. All senior Territorians 65 years or older, are eligible for this scheme

Redeeming the voucher

Travel vouchers will be valid until 30 June 2020 and cannot accrue. From 1 July 2020 the prepaid card will be issued to all NT Seniors Recognition Scheme members and travel vouchers will not be available.

Members with unused travel vouchers for 2019-20 can redeem their vouchers until 30 June 2020. Members can use two valid vouchers totalling $500 in one transaction to subsidise the cost of fares within the Northern Territory, interstate and overseas or each valid voucher totalling $250 for two separate transactions.

Travel vouchers can only be used once. If travel costs are under the value of the voucher/s the remaining amount will be forfeit.

Members can request to change their travel vouchers to a prepaid card prior to 31 May 2020. Once a prepaid card is issued it cannot be changed back to travel vouchers.

Booking with an Approved Vendor

Members can book travel through an Approved Vendor who operate under a Code of Practice, ensuring they provide value for money, quality for service and operate with integrity.

If an Approved Vendor charges a booking fee, they are required to advise the Member. If a Member is not happy with the service provided by an Approved Vendor, they can contact the NT Concession and Recognition Unit on 1800 777 704

Booking your own travel

Members can book their own travel if they take and claim their travel within the voucher’s valid period (between 1 July and 30 June).

To claim, Members will need to bring their invoice, travel voucher, itinerary and boarding pass to a Territory Families shop front, to redeem the voucher, once travel has been taken. Payment will be made into the Member’s bank account.

Private vehicle travel

Vouchers can also be used for private vehicle travel. Members must compete a Private Vehicle form prior to departure, which must be signed by an authorised person at the travel destination.

Once travel is complete, Members must bring in the completed Private Vehicle Form and valid travel vouchers to a Territory Families shop front for reimbursement.

The $250 payment can be used for 100km of travel and the $500 payment can be used for 300km of travel.

Non-Member travel

Members may use their travel entitlement to bring family and friends to visit them in the NT.

If Non-Members are travelling privately with their own vehicle, they must fill out a Non-Member private vehicle travel form. Once travel has been completed, the Member can bring valid vouchers and the Non-Member travelling form (signed by the Non-Member) to the shop front. The Member will receive the reimbursement in their bank account.

If the travel is booked by the member or non-member, a non-member travel application form must be submitted with a copy of the invoice, travel vouchers, itinerary, boarding pass and interstate drivers licence showing the non-members residential address.

Travelling over two financial years

Members that book their own travel or travel by private vehicle over two financial years can only claim their voucher in the financial year that the voucher was issued.

For example, Members with travel vouchers valid from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 cannot claim travel taken after 30 June 2019, even if they depart before this date.
