From 1 July 2018, two new schemes will be introduced, the NT Concession Scheme assisting eligible members with cost of living expenses and the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme valuing and recognising the contribution senior Territorians make to the community.
Senior Territorians who are 65 years and older are eligible for the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme and will receive a $500 concession per year for utilities and/or travel.
NT Concession Scheme members may be eligible to receive concessions on expenses including:
- rates and garbage
- NT Drivers’ Licence and motor vehicle registration.
Territorians who are 65 years and older are eligible for the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme and will receive a $500 payment each year to be used for travel, electricity and/or water.
Members who select travel will be issued with vouchers of up to $500 per year towards the cost of travel in the NT, interstate or overseas.
Ensuring transparency of the schemes
It’s important to recognise that an appropriate level of administrative oversight is essential to reassure the community that the new schemes are strong and robust.
To become an Approved Vendor businesses will need to:
- apply online
- agree to operate under a Code of Practice
- be a registered business in the NT
- hold appropriate registration and insurances
- not be subject to any legal action.
New arrangements with vendors clearly document roles and responsibilities and incorporate regular checks and reporting requirements.
Compliance checking will be undertaken at point-of-sale and through routine independent audit processes.
These arrangements intend to promote best practice in service provision. This includes providing value for money products and services, following processes which promote and maintain public confidence in the scheme and result in a positive member experience.
Approved Vendor code of practice
The Approved Vendor Code of Practice and Terms and Conditions has been developed to ensure consistent service and protection of member rights when accessing concessions and redeeming travel vouchers at approved vendors.
- integrity, ethics and conduct
- value for money
- quality services and products
- complaints management process.
