Under the new NT Concession Scheme, the concession for power and water will remain the same with a cap placed on electricity and water concessions.
From July 1 2018, the electricity concession will be limited to a maximum of $1,200 each year, per household. This is based on an average usage for a household of 8,000 kWh per year.
The water concession will be limited to a maximum of $800 each year, per household. This is based on an average usage for a household of 471 kL per year.
Most concession scheme members use less than the average consumption amounts for electricity and water and will not be affected by the capped amount.
The new NT Concession Scheme will start on 1 July 2018.
Applying a cap for electricity and water
Jacana Energy and Power and Water will apply the caps through their billing systems. Caps will be reset at the start of each financial year.
The electricity and water concessions will be applied on a daily rate until the cap is reached then no further concessions can be applied.
Most members will not use more than the capped amount however, some members receiving concessions beyond the caps will receive a reduced NT Concession Scheme payment.
Members who are eligible for the NT Seniors Recognition Scheme, can choose to use the $500 payment for electricity and/or water.
From 1 July 2018, further concessions may be available for members who have a medical condition that increases power consumption. This is subject to verification by a medical professional.
